Keep property information separate
Decide what is safe to share between guides and what must stay with one property, so guests never get the wrong instructions.
Updated
Sharing content saves time. Sharing the wrong content causes the exact problems a guide is meant to prevent.
The test
Ask one question about every piece of content: if a guest followed this at the wrong property, would something go wrong?
If yes, it belongs to one guide. If no, it can be shared.
Always property-specific
- Door codes, key safes and access instructions
- Wi-Fi network names and passwords
- Parking spaces and permits
- Bin day and where the bins live
- Appliance instructions, unless the appliances are genuinely identical
- The address and directions
Usually safe to share
- Your check-out routine, if it is the same everywhere
- Policies on parcels, visitors, smoking and pets
- How to contact you
- Recommendations that serve properties in the same area
Watch out for near-identical properties
Two flats in the same building are where mistakes happen, because almost everything is the same — until it is not. The door code differs, the parking bay differs, the bin store may differ.
Treat those details as property-specific even when everything around them is shared.
Check before you publish a new guide
When creating a guide for a new property, work through the shared content that has been applied to it and confirm each item is actually true of this property. It is quicker than fixing it after a guest has followed the wrong instruction.
