Reorder your guide content

Drag categories, subcategories and sections into the order guests need them, and understand why order matters.

Updated

Everything in a guide can be reordered by dragging, and order affects how useful a guide is more than most hosts expect.

How to reorder

In the guide editor, drag a category, subcategory or section by its handle and drop it where you want it. The new order saves automatically and guests see it straight away.

Why order matters

Guests do not read guides. They scan them, on a phone, looking for one thing.

Whatever sits at the top of a list is what most people will read. Everything below the fold is read by progressively fewer people, and the last item in a long list is read by almost nobody.

A sensible default order

Think about when each thing is needed:

  1. On the way — directions, parking
  2. On arrival — getting in, Wi-Fi
  3. During the stay — appliances, house rules, recommendations
  4. On departure — check-out steps, bins

Reorder after you have analytics

Once your guide has traffic, analytics show which categories guests actually open. If something near the bottom is opened constantly, move it up. If something at the top is never opened, it may not need to be there at all.

That is the cheapest improvement available to most guides: no new writing, just a better order.
