What counts as an engaged visit
How WelcomeFlo separates a genuine visit from a glance, and why engaged visits matter more than raw view counts.
Updated
Raw view counts are easy to inflate and hard to learn from. Engaged visits are the more honest number.
The definition
A visit counts as engaged when a guest does at least one of the following:
- Spends at least ten seconds actively reading
- Opens at least two pieces of content
- Takes an action, such as copying the Wi-Fi password or opening directions
- Searches inside the guide
Anything less is counted as a visit but not an engaged one.
Why active time is measured, not elapsed time
Active time counts only the period the guide is actually in front of the guest. If they switch apps or lock the phone, the clock stops.
Without that, a guide left open in a background tab overnight would look like your best-performing content.
Treat time as a supporting number
A long visit can mean a guest found the guide absorbing, or that they could not find what they needed. Time on its own does not say which.
Read it alongside actions and searches. A long visit that ends in a Wi-Fi password being copied is a guide doing its job; a long visit ending in a failed search is not.
A reasonable expectation
Most guides see high engagement, because guests open them with a specific question rather than to browse. If your engagement rate is low, the usual cause is the guide being shared at the wrong moment — after arrival rather than before.
