Activate or deactivate a guide
Publish a guide so guests can open it, and take it offline again without losing any of your content.

A guide is either active or inactive. Active means anyone with the link can open it; inactive means only you can.
Activating a guide
New guides start inactive so you can build them privately. When you are ready, open the guide's settings and activate it. From that moment the web address works for anyone who has it.
Activating does not send anything to your guests. Sharing the link is a separate step.
Deactivating a guide
Deactivating takes the guide offline. The link stops working for guests, and anyone who opens it sees a not-found page.
Your content is not deleted. Sections, images, places and settings all stay exactly as they were, and reactivating brings the guide back at the same web address.
When deactivating is useful
- The property is off the market for a season
- You are rebuilding the guide and would rather guests did not see it half-finished
- You have reached your plan's guide limit and need to free a slot
- You want to stop access to a link that has been shared more widely than intended
Guests already reading the guide
Someone with the guide open will keep seeing the page they are on until they reload. Deactivating is not a way to remove information already read — treat anything you have published as seen.
