Test your guide before sharing it
Check your guide the way a guest will use it, so problems are found by you rather than by someone who has just arrived.
Updated
Testing a guide takes ten minutes and catches the problems guests would otherwise report at eleven at night.
Test as a guest, not as the owner
Open your guide's link in a private browsing window, or on a phone that is not signed in to your account. As the owner you can see an inactive guide, so testing while signed in can make an unpublished guide look fine.
Do the things a guest does
Walk through the actual journey:
- Scan the QR code with your phone camera
- Find the parking information
- Find the Wi-Fi password, and connect using it
- Look up the check-out time
- Search for the three things guests ask you about most
- Open directions to one of your recommendations
Anything that takes more than a few seconds to find is worth moving.
Test the details that break silently
- The Wi-Fi password, by actually connecting
- The address, by opening directions from somewhere else in town
- Your phone number, by tapping it
- Any external link, by following it
Ask someone who has not seen it
The most valuable test is someone unfamiliar with the property. You know where everything is; a guest does not. Ask a friend to find the bin day without help and watch where they look first.
Re-test after significant changes
Reordering content, changing the cover image or changing the web address are all worth a quick re-check on a phone afterwards.
